Azimuth

Gather round and let us (re)introduce you to Azimuth, a vibrant pan-pacific pale ale crafted with hops from New Zealand, Australia, and the West Coast of the USA. With flavours of peach accompanied by bright citrus with hints of honeysuckle and an assertive bitterness,  this beer is simply a time machine in a glass. 

Originally the flagship beer of the esteemed Hardknott Brewery in Millom, Azimuth holds a cherished place in the hearts of long standing craft beer enthusiasts nationwide. Hardknott Brewery, which closed its doors in 2018, was led by the formidable and passionate Dave Bailey. Known for his strong opinions and pioneering spirit, Dave was aptly described by his job title “Force Majeure.” His bold approach to brewing made beers that stood out and left an indelible mark on the UK craft beer scene.

Azimuth was one of Dave Bailey’s favourite creations. In 2021, after Dave received a terminal cancer diagnosis, our brewer Scott extended an invitation to recreate this legendary beer at Fell Brewery. This very special brew day saw the return of all Dave’s former brewers, coming together in a heartfelt tribute to ensure Dave could enjoy Azimuth once again.

This year, we were honoured to welcome Ann, Dave’s partner and co-founder of Hardknott, to help us brew another batch. This gesture is a tribute to Dave and his enduring legacy in the craft beer community. Dave’s influence extends far and wide, having mentored numerous brewers who continue to innovate and inspire in Cumbria and beyond.

For us, Azimuth is more than just a beer; it’s a celebration of a brewing legend and a tribute to the camaraderie within the craft beer community. Join us in raising a pint of Azimuth to Dave’s memory and his contributions to the world of craft beer.
