At Fell, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a fundamental priority that drives every aspect of our operations. We believe that no long-term strategy can be truly effective without addressing the climate crisis and striving for a future defined by comprehensive, sustainable practices.

We’ve made some big changes in the last few years to try and get to grips with our impact on our environment and we have big plans to reduce our carbon emissions to industry leading levels. Watch this space.

Leading the Charge

At the start of 2024, we made some key changes to our managerial structure, creating a specific role that will guide us through reducing our carbon emissions in the coming years.

Tim, one of our Founders, is now our Sustainability Director and has the sole focus of looking at how to make Fell the most sustainable brewery in the country.

He’s been working with Small World Consulting to truly understand our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and to put a plan in place to reduce them.

Powering our future

In 2022 we installed a 45kW array of solar panels on the roof of the brewery which produces around 60% of the brewery’s energy inputs. In 2023, the solar panels on the brewery roof generated 36MWh of electricity. For context, that is enough to power 14 average UK homes for the year.

Solar power has been a great success for Fell and we will be looking to add to our capacity in the future.

Working with our local community

Whether it be supporting South Cumbria Rivers Trust by donating 5p from every pint of Ghyll sold to their project to improve the condition of the river Kent, working with sustainable merchandise suppliers, such as Oubas in Ulverston or utilising locally grown barley and oats from the Holker Estate, we’re expanding out network of likeminded companies to foster a community of businesses committed to tackling the climate crisis.

Our People

We are incredibly proud of our people proposition at Fell and are committed to keeping this industry leading in perpetuity. Our team mean everything to us. Highlights include: Living Wage Foundation Employer, 4 day week, cycle to work scheme, generous staff discounts.
