Hi all,
It’s a bit of a mad world out there right now, I think we can all agree. As such, some might argue that it isn’t the best time to be championing a small brewery’s efforts to decarbonise their beer. Perhaps there are bigger issues at hand. I reject that idea wholeheartedly! Now is precisely the time when we need to be shouting about these things louder than ever.
Our sustainability journey at Fell Brewery has shown me that solutions to the climate crisis aren’t just theoretical; they’re real, practical, and evolving rapidly. They perhaps just need slightly better PR and certainly a lot more positivity surrounding them. Yes, they often require investment and bold thinking, but they’re entirely achievable and available right now. Our recent sustainability efforts have already significantly reduced our carbon footprint, with clear plans to cut our emissions by 50% by 2028. This is better than what I hoped for at the start of our journey.
What’s exciting is how rapidly these solutions are developing, not just in brewing but across the whole economy. The challenges that I thought would be our most significant at the start of this journey now feel totally different today. Be it energy, agriculture, land use, the circular economy or just general consumer trends and the attitudes we encounter in our supply chain; the paths that I see emerging for our future develop and improve every day. Just a decade ago, many sustainable solutions we’re now exploring were mere concepts. Today, they’re becoming solutions and products that we can roll out to our customers.
Looking ahead, I genuinely find the possibilities incredibly exciting. Once we achieve our current goals, the next steps will be transformative, not just for Fell, but for the entire food and drink sector and beyond. The more we innovate, the clearer the commercial benefits become. We’re not just doing good—we’re building a resilient, thriving, and sustainable business model for others to emulate.
I’m optimistic because the trajectory of progress across the wider economy is unmistakable. As more businesses invest in sustainable practices, the momentum grows. We’re living through a moment of real, tangible change. It’s just tricky to see it amongst the hysterics of today’s news cycle. The solutions aren’t coming—they’re here, evolving faster than ever.
So here’s to the future. Together, with openness, innovation, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm, there’s every reason to feel optimistic. Presidents will come and go. This change is permanent.
Cheers,
