Hello!
It’s summer… apparently! And as such, we have brought back Glisky by popular demand. Glisky is a classic English Summer Ale, a style rather rarely encountered these days (much like the English summer). It is above all a beer to be drunk, with soft notes of pear and the unmistakable aroma of a dewy, overgrown meadow on an early summer morning.

The perceptive among you will observe that Glisky is also the name of our new venue in Kendal, down on Dockray Hall. This begs the question of which came first and the origins of the name. To be clear, the beer came first. It was the brainchild of the brewteam’s desire to resurrect nostalgic memories of such classics as Hopback Summer Lightning. They named it Glisky, which is Cumbrian dialect for bright light in the sky after rain, another tongue in cheek nod to Lakeland summers.
So, enjoy Glisky… and while you’re at it, consider attending one of Glisky’s fantastic upcoming events:
Firstly Cory Hanson. Cory and his band will be playing at Glisky on the 21st August 2023 and promises to be a night of acid folk dreamscapes cut with country and prog-rock strands.
You can buy tickets now!
In October, post punk band KEG will be playing. A 7 piece trombone barrage of sweaty rhythms, impish humour and angular guitars. Hailing from towns all over the country and formed in Brighton. KEG have toured the UK excessively, bringing their enthralling live shows to the masses while sharing stages with the likes of Squid and Yard Act. They’ll be performing on the 7th October.
And finally we’re really excited to announce that we’ve got The Bug Club playing on the 4th November. Formed in Monmouthshire in 2016, they’ll be bringing their tight-knit indie-rock to Kendal. A collaborative effort focussed on telling tales of the everyday that we often take for granted, shot through with humour and riffs-a-plenty.
Also keep your eyes peeled for regular pop ups from our new friends at Northern Wine, who have been using the space in Glisky to make their amazing new addition to the Cumbrian food and drink scene. Check them out below, where you can also buy bottles online with free local delivery!
